Most four-day Tanzania safaris spread themselves too thin, giving each park a single night and filling the rest with driving. This itinerary does the opposite. It commits two full nights to the Serengeti, so you have complete morning and afternoon game drives on the plains rather than a rushed pass through, then finishes with a full descent into the Ngorongoro Crater.
The Serengeti's central Seronera region holds resident lion and leopard year-round, which makes it the most reliable sector for big cats regardless of where the migration happens to be. The Ngorongoro Crater, the world's largest intact volcanic caldera, delivers an extraordinary density of wildlife in a single morning, including one of East Africa's most dependable populations of critically endangered black rhino.
Departures are private, in a customised pop-roof 4x4 with a guaranteed window seat for every guest, and the group is capped at eight.

Day 1: Arusha to the Serengeti
Your Tazama driver-guide collects you in Arusha after an early breakfast and heads west along the rim of the Ngorongoro highlands, with the crater viewpoint stop on the way. The road descends onto the short-grass plains and the horizon opens out in every direction. You enter the Serengeti in the early afternoon with a game drive en route to camp, arriving in the central Seronera area in time for the golden hour, when the resident prides begin to stir.

Day 2: Full day in the Serengeti
A full day on the plains with a picnic lunch, so you never have to break off a sighting to head back for a meal. Mornings are spent along the Seronera river valley, where the acacia and kopjes hold one of the highest leopard densities in Africa and lion prides rest on the rocks. Between June and October your guide will track the migration herds if they are within range. Late afternoon is given to whatever the day has turned up, with time to wait rather than rush on.

Day 3: Serengeti to the Ngorongoro highlands
A final morning game drive in the Serengeti before turning east toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The route passes Olduvai Gorge, where the Leakeys' excavations reshaped what we know about early human origins, and an optional stop at the site museum can be arranged. You climb into the highlands through afromontane forest to your lodge on the crater rim, arriving in time to watch the light change over the caldera floor two thousand feet below.

Day 4: Ngorongoro Crater descent and return to Arusha
An early descent into the crater, ahead of the day's traffic, for a morning game drive on the floor. The 260-square-kilometre caldera holds roughly 25,000 large animals within its walls: lion, elephant, buffalo, hippo, flamingo on Lake Magadi, and black rhino, which are seen here more reliably than almost anywhere in East Africa. After a picnic lunch you ascend and drive back to Arusha, arriving late afternoon for onward travel or a Kilimanjaro Airport transfer.
