Tour Overview
This 7 day Kenya safari is the definitive introduction to East Africa's most celebrated wildlife destinations — four iconic parks in one perfectly routed circuit from Nairobi. It is the kind of itinerary that stays with you for a lifetime.
The journey begins in Amboseli National Park, where Africa's largest elephant herds roam beneath the snow-capped peak of Mount Kilimanjaro — the most iconic image in African wildlife photography. From there the circuit moves into the Great Rift Valley, stopping at Lake Naivasha for a boat safari through hippo-filled shallows and a guided cycle through the dramatic volcanic gorge of Hell's Gate National Park.
Lake Nakuru National Park follows — a UNESCO World Heritage Site where hundreds of thousands of flamingos turn the alkaline lake pink and where both white and black rhino roam freely alongside lion, leopard, Rothschild giraffe, and buffalo. The circuit culminates in the Maasai Mara National Reserve — Kenya's most celebrated safari park and home to Africa's densest lion population, the Great Wildebeest Migration (July–October), and the full cast of the Big Five in some of the most dramatic savannah scenery on the continent.
Throughout, you travel with an expert Tazama driver-guide in a customised 4WD safari vehicle with a pop-up roof, staying in carefully selected mid-luxury lodges and tented camps chosen for their proximity to the wildlife action. Small groups of maximum 8 guests ensure an unhurried, personal experience from first game drive to final sundowner.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Nairobi
Arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi, where your Tazama driver-guide meets you for a private transfer to your lodge. Kenya's capital sits at 1,700m on the edge of the Great Rift Valley — a vibrant, fast-moving city that also happens to have the world's only national park inside a capital city. If time permits before dinner, your guide can take you to a viewpoint over Nairobi National Park, where giraffe and lion roam against the city skyline — one of Africa's most extraordinary images. This evening enjoy a welcome dinner and a pre-safari briefing: itinerary overview, packing tips, wildlife highlights to expect, and an introduction to Kenya's diverse ecosystems.

Day 2: Nairobi to Amboseli National Park
After an early breakfast, drive southeast from Nairobi (approximately 4 hours) to Amboseli National Park — one of Kenya's most iconic wildlife destinations and Africa's finest location for elephant photography. Amboseli sits at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro, and on clear mornings Africa's highest peak forms a breathtaking backdrop to scenes of enormous elephant herds crossing the open plains. The park's swamp-fed meadows support one of Africa's most-studied elephant populations — large-tusked bulls, breeding herds of 50 or more, and calves of every age. Afternoon game drives also reveal lion, cheetah, wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, and an exceptional array of raptors and waterbirds around the Enkongo Narok swamp. Sundowners in the bush before returning to your lodge for dinner and a night sky blazing with stars over the Kilimanjaro foothills.

Day 3: Amboseli to Lake Naivasha
An early morning game drive captures Amboseli at its finest — Kilimanjaro glowing pink in the dawn light as elephants move in slow procession across the plains. After breakfast, drive back through Nairobi and northwest into the Great Rift Valley to Lake Naivasha (approximately 5.5 hours total, with a comfort stop in Nairobi). Lake Naivasha is a freshwater lake cradled by the Rift Valley escarpment, fringed with yellow fever trees and papyrus beds. It is home to Kenya's largest hippo population, hundreds of resident bird species, and — famously — roving herds of giraffe, zebra, and buffalo that wander the lake's shores after dark. Arrive in the late afternoon and take a short walk along the lakeside before dinner at your lodge.

Day 4: Lake Naivasha — Boat Safari & Hell's Gate
A full day exploring the Naivasha area — one of the most varied wildlife experiences on any Kenya circuit. Morning boat safari on the lake: drift through the hippo pods that loll in the shallows, watch fish eagles plunge for tilapia, and navigate through the floating papyrus where African darters and malachite kingfishers perch at arm's length. The boat also approaches Crescent Island — a wildlife sanctuary where you can walk among wildebeest, giraffe, and gazelle with no barriers and no vehicles. After lunch, head to neighbouring Hell's Gate National Park — a dramatic gorge of volcanic pillars, steam vents, and towering cliffs that inspired the landscapes of Disney's The Lion King. Hell's Gate is one of the only parks in Kenya where you can cycle or walk among wildlife. A guided cycle through the gorge — passing grazing zebra and waterbuck at close range — is an unforgettable contrast to the vehicle safaris of the bush.

Day 5: Lake Naivasha to Lake Nakuru National Park
A short, scenic drive north from Naivasha (approximately 1 hour) brings you to Lake Nakuru National Park — a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Kenya's most rewarding Big Five parks. Lake Nakuru is famous above all for its flamingos: hundreds of thousands of lesser and greater flamingos turn the alkaline lake's shallows a vivid pink — one of the most spectacular natural images anywhere in Africa. Bird numbers vary by season, but the flamingo spectacle is reliable year-round. Beyond the flamingos, Nakuru is a stronghold for both white and black rhino — one of the best places in East Africa to see these endangered animals on foot-level, close-range game drives. The park also hosts large populations of lion, leopard (frequently seen in the yellow fever tree forest), buffalo, Rothschild giraffe, and the endemic Defassa waterbuck. Afternoon game drive before checking in to your lakeside lodge for dinner.

Day 6: Lake Nakuru to Maasai Mara National Reserve
An early morning game drive in Nakuru before driving southwest (approximately 4.5 hours via Narok) to the Maasai Mara National Reserve — Kenya's most celebrated wildlife destination and one of the greatest safari parks on earth. The approach through the Rift Valley escarpment and the Maasai rangeland is spectacular: endless savannah, Maasai herders moving their cattle across ochre plains, and the first sign of the vast wildebeest herds that call this ecosystem home year-round. Arrive in the Mara in time for a late afternoon game drive — your first taste of the Mara's extraordinary wildlife density. Lion are almost guaranteed, with the Mara supporting some of Africa's highest concentrations. Leopard rest in the riverine trees along the Mara River; cheetah scan the open plains for Thomson's gazelle; elephant, buffalo, hippo, and crocodile complete the Big Five picture. Return to your tented camp as the sun sets over the Mara Triangle and the evening chorus of hyenas, hippos, and lions fills the African night.

Day 7: Maasai Mara — Full Day & Return to Nairobi
Rise before dawn for the Mara's finest hour — the early morning game drive when predators are still active and the golden light floods the savannah. This is the time for lion hunts, cheetah chases, and leopards descending from their overnight perches in the sycamore figs. The Maasai Mara hosts the world-famous Great Wildebeest Migration between July and October, when 1.5 million wildebeest and 200,000 zebra pour across the Mara River from Tanzania in scenes of extraordinary drama. Outside migration season, the Mara's resident wildlife — including the densest lion population in Africa — ensures exceptional game viewing year-round. A final packed lunch in the bush before driving back to Nairobi (approximately 5-6 hours via Narok), arriving in time for your international departure from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. Your Tazama driver-guide will ensure you are at the airport with comfortable time to spare.
